MONITORING AND REPORTING SYSTEM - MaRS
Financing Theology and Ecumenism

THE LUTHERAN WORLD FEDERATION                                   ACTION BY CHURCHES TOGETHER (ACT)

The LWF Council in 2002 asked the Executive Committee to establish a small group to carry out a strategic planning process for theology and ecumenism in the LWF, taking into specific consideration the Department for Theology and Studies, the Office for Ecumenical Affairs and the Institute for Ecumenical Research, Strasbourg.

The Council also asked the Executive Committee to consider in which way the financing of the continuous core functions in the areas of theology and ecumenism may be supported by the Geneva coordination budget (A-budget).

The new Council in August 2003 appointed the Treasurer and the Chairpersons of the respective committees, i.e. OKR Mr. Stoll, Prof. Dr. Track, Prof. Rossing and Prof. Dr. Gregersen to carry out the strategic planning process with the help of the staff. Treasurer Stoll was requested to convene the first meeting.

The proposal is to use the attached Strategic Planning Process Plan to carry out the task. A good background document is "Theology and Ecumenism in the LWF", Report of a Task Force in March 2001, where the shared purpose and the different functions of the Department for Theology and Studies, the Office for Ecumenical Affairs and the Institute for Ecumenical Research were reflected. By utilizing this document we can probably simplify and speed up the planning process.

We would work step by step. First you would be asked to describe your vision for Theology and Ecumenism in LWF. After everyone has given input we would reach a consensus. Thereafter you would be asked to analyze your environment / context. After everyone has given input we would again reach a consensus. And so on…

You could send your related documents to Pauli Rantanen (pkr@lutheranworld.org) in Geneva.
