In this section, you will find graphic elements and tips to help you create LWF documents using official guidelines. This section is compiled by the LWF Office for Communication Services, jointly with the Department for World Service, and will be growing in the future, with the addition of other logos, tips, and templates.

Do not hesitate to contact us and let you know about your wishes.

The Official Logo of the Lutheran World Federation

LWF LogoThe Lutheran World Federation’s official logo is the symbol of the Eighth Assembly of the LWF, held in Curitiba (Brazil) in 1990. It was originally designed for the 1970 Fifth Assembly in Porto Allegre (Brazil), that was eventually moved to Évian.

It is available in :

It is recommended for use on a white background, although it can also be placed on other colors. The interior of the logo must keep the same color as the background or remain white.

Kindly respect the proportions: the height of the logo is about 140% of its width; thus, a 10 cm wide logo would be 14 cm high.

For a selection of alternate logos, check the Alternate LWF Logos page.

The LWF name

The official name of the LWF is "The Lutheran World Federation"; the "The" is an integral part of the English name.

Official translations in other languages are:

  • "Lutherischer Weltbund" (German),
  • "Fédération luthérienne mondiale" (French; when used with the other languages, the words can be capitalized to "Fédération Luthérienne Mondiale" to keep with graphic consistency) and
  • "Federación Luterana Mundial" (Spanish).

In 2003, the LWF Tenth Assembly, requested the addition of "A Communion of Churches" to the English name, to wit: "The Lutheran World Federation – A Communion of Churches". In the other official languages:

  • "Lutherischer Weltbund – eine Kirchengemeinschaft"
  • "Fédération luthérienne mondiale – une communion d'Églises"
  • "Federación Luterana Mundial – Una Comunión de Iglesias"

We have files that include the logo and the LWF's name, in different languages. They come in black/white, 1200 dpi TIFF (for use as letterhead for documents) and 600-pixel wide, web-ready GIF:

  • Main title in English (TIFF, 100 KB; GIF, 9 KB).
  • Main title in German (TIFF, 120 KB; GIF, 9 KB).
  • Main title in French (TIFF, 110 KB; GIF, 9 KB).
  • Main title in Spanish (TIFF, 110 KB; GIF, 9 KB).

Other logos

Logos of the LWF Tenth Assembly, held in Winnipeg, Canada, on July 21-31, 2003, are available on the Assembly web page.

The logo page is available in English, German, French and Spanish, with all the necessary technical information available.

LWF official colors

The LWF commonly uses a deep blue color. The color reference is Pantone Blue 072 CVU. In CMYK, it can be approximated with 100% cyan and 79% Magenta (C100 M79 Y0 K0); the equivalent Web color would be #200098.

With this blue, the LWF often use a yellow-gold color, defined as Pantone 122 U; that color can be approximated in 17% Magenta and 80 Yellow (C0 M17 Y80 K0) and, in Web color, as #FFD444.

LWF official fonts

All LWF published documents are designed with four character fonts (links point to the Adobe font catalog): Friz Quadrata and Eras for titles, Cheltenham and ITC Century for body text (Eras can also be used for boxed texts or captions). Be aware that these fonts are not available in the public domain: they must be bought from the various foundries that provide them.

These rules apply mostly to documents published in print form, by the Geneva secretariat. It does not apply to Web sites (for technical reasons: there is currently no way to guarantee the availability of fonts on an HTML document) and can only apply to Field Offices and Regional Offices who can afford it.

The LWF acts on behalf of its member churches in areas of common interest such as ecumenical relations, theology, humanitarian assistance, human rights, communication, and the various aspects of mission and development work
